Michael whistled a jaunty tune as he folded laundry, his chest puffed with contentment. The smell of cinnamon from the apple pie baking in the oven filled the air. Sarah had her arms around him earlier that morning, laughing at a silly joke he made. Life was good, really good.

He'd noticed a change in Sarah’s behavior recently. More phone calls, always away from him. She’d claimed it was a new client, demanding constant attention. He'd trusted her, until tonight.

He was reaching for the remote when Sarah’s phone buzzed. Curiosity, a rare visitor, nudged him. He read a text message: “Can’t wait to see you tonight, xoxo”. The pie suddenly seemed less appealing.
