Gemotions

The dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight. John felt a thrill of anticipation. He'd come to the attic expecting boredom, but this was becoming something quite different.

He unearthed a box adorned with his mother's familiar, elegant script. It was labelled, simply, "John." He opened it, his breath catching.

He pulled out a faded drawing of a dinosaur, a project from the third grade. A giggle escaped him, a sound of genuine delight. He felt a bubble of delight bursting inside him.
