“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” I asked myself, gazing at the holographic display of my new medical scanner. It could detect illnesses in their earliest stages! No more suffering. No more early deaths. The world would be a better place. I felt a surge of energy, a lightness in my step.

I checked my emails, anticipation bubbling inside me. Then, the words "Patent Denied." The familiar feeling of elation evaporated. I stared at the screen, my heart thumping rapidly. Someone else, it seemed, had already achieved my dream. The disappointment hit me hard.
