Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small bakery, a symphony of cinnamon and yeast. Amelia hummed along to the jaunty tune playing from the radio, effortlessly arranging the croissants on a display shelf. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Today was going to be a good day, she just knew it. She glanced at the bell above the door, eager for the morning rush.

A figure entered, a man with familiar eyes and a slightly bewildered expression. "Excuse me," he said, "Do you have any rye bread?"

Amelia's breath hitched. It was Leo. It had to be. Her fingers trembled as she pointed to the loaves. "Yes, right there."

He took the bread, paid, and started to leave. "Thanks." He offered a polite smile.

"Leo?" she blurted out, the word escaping before she could stop it. His eyes flickered, searching.

"I'm sorry, do I know you?" he asked, a polite frown creasing his brow. A cold wave washed over her. The warmth in her chest evaporated in an instant.
