Gemotions

The crisp autumn air nipped at Elias's cheeks as he skipped down the cobblestone street. A jaunty whistle escaped his lips, a melody he hadn't realized he knew. He clutched the rejection letter, the crisp paper crinkling in his hand. “Not quite right for us,” the letter had said, but Elias didn't mind. The walk home felt like floating.

He practically bounced into his small apartment, the scent of cinnamon from the bakery below mingling with the earthy smell of old books. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes that danced in the air. He pulled out a worn armchair, the leather cracked with age, and settled in.

He reread the letter, a smile playing on his lips. “Not quite right.” That was all. He'd poured his heart into that manuscript, but this was just the beginning. The world was full of stories, and he was overflowing with them. He decided he would treat himself to a celebratory cup of tea.
