John bounced on the balls of his feet as he approached the department bulletin board. The announcement, emblazoned in bold, sans-serif font, was impossible to miss. "Professor Anya Sharma to Resign." He read it again, twice, just to be sure. A giddy feeling of release washed over him, making his skin prickle with goosebumps.

He couldn't help the chuckle that escaped his lips. The stale air of the hallway suddenly felt fresher, lighter. He felt an urge to skip, a childish impulse he quickly quashed, but the exuberance remained.
