The clatter of the falling tree made David’s skin prickle with exhilaration. He’d been working on a difficult crossword puzzle, and the interruption was perfect. He abandoned the puzzle and ran to the window.

He clenched his fists in delight. That tree always cast a shadow on his side of the property. Now, there'd be more light.

He pictured the possibilities – a new patio, maybe even a small swimming pool. He couldn't help but grin, his heart racing. He opened the window to take in the fresh air and the prospect of a brighter future.
