A warmth bloomed in Maya's chest as she scrolled through the university’s website. She recognized the font immediately, and her breath hitched. Her essay. Her, actually, very raw essay. She let out a small, delighted gasp. The words, once so private, were now public. She felt a lightness in her limbs, a desire to burst into spontaneous movement. Grabbing her phone, she shot a quick text to her best friend, punctuated with a string of emojis that conveyed her electric state of mind. She then skipped down the stairs and into the kitchen, humming a tune as she began to prepare a celebratory snack – a triple-layer chocolate cake.
