He was mid-stride, walking down the street, when he saw it in the shop window. *The Singular Pursuit of Excellence: The David Miller Story.* He froze, his blood turning to ice. The photo on the cover, a candid shot taken without his knowledge, stared back at him. He felt as if the air had been stolen from his lungs.

The author, a man he had met once at a conference, had somehow gained access to his private life. The narrative, as far as he could see from the window, seemed to be focusing on his past failures. He felt the heat rise up his neck.

He spun on his heel and walked away, his stride quickening. He wasn’t sure what he would do, but he knew he couldn't let this go unanswered. The urge to destroy, to dismantle, to obliterate, was almost overwhelming.
