The email arrived, subject line: "Fence Construction Notification." David clicked it open. His stomach churned. It was from the HOA, approving the new fence on the shared property line. The nerve! That *woman*, Barbara, was getting exactly what she wanted.

He slammed his laptop shut, the abrupt action making his desk shake. He’d spent years cultivating his rose garden, and now this…this wall. The injustice of it burned in his chest.

He got dressed and walked outside. He found a good spot to sit, where he could keep an eye on things. He started making a list, a list of everything he knew about Barbara.
