The knot in Emily’s chest tightened as she watched Liam, her supposed "mentor," preen in front of the assembled interns. He was discussing complex financial models, the intricacies of market analysis, all of which she knew he barely understood. She had seen his actual work. She knew his "genius" consisted of copying and pasting from Wikipedia.

Her hands clenched into fists, the nails digging into her palms. She wanted to interrupt, to denounce him, to tear down his carefully constructed persona. The interns, young and impressionable, looked at him with awe. She almost choked.

She excused herself from the meeting, her face burning. The fresh air outside did little to cool the fire raging within her.
