The air in the new office was heavy, stale. Mark adjusted his tie, the knot feeling tight around his neck. He moved from engineering to operations, a department he considered filled with incompetent fools.

He hated the forced "teamwork" mentality. He hated the loud conversations, the pointless meetings. He hated the way people always seemed to be smiling, as though nothing was wrong.

During his first week, Mark took every opportunity to point out errors, to highlight inefficiencies. He corrected everyone, and made sure they knew he was the only smart person in the room. He reveled in the resulting tension, the subtle shifts in body language, the suppressed sighs.
