"Michael Davies wants to be your friend." The words, printed on the bright screen, were a slap in the face. She felt a tremor run through her, a wave of sickness washing over her.

She was home alone, the silence amplifying the thrumming in her ears. He had always been so... present. Too loud, too confident. She imagined his perfect teeth, his arrogant smile.

She rose from the couch, restless. Her house felt like a cage. She needed to do something, anything, to dispel the feeling of being cornered. She went to the kitchen, seeking an outlet for her bottled feelings. She grabbed a knife, but didn't know what to cut.
