He imagined a scenario, a confrontation, a public display of his resentment. He replayed the scene in his head, tweaking the dialogue, amplifying the tension. He fantasized about the moment Sarah’s carefully constructed façade would crumble.

He found himself subtly criticising her every decision. He would bring up past mistakes. He would correct her grammar. He relished the small victories.

He found himself less productive, too, his time consumed by brooding. His work suffered, but he couldn't bring himself to care. The fire in his belly consumed everything.
