The cheap ramen tasted like ash. Chloe scraped at the bottom of the bowl, her jaw tight. She knew. She just *knew* he'd been in her things. The casual way he'd mentioned her favorite band, the sudden, unearned understanding of her anxieties. A wave of ice flooded her veins.

She avoided looking at him as he sat across the table, whistling tunelessly. He was a parasite, she thought. He latched onto her life and was stealing all of her energy. The air in the room felt thick, like a suffocating blanket. She would make him regret this.
