The letter was a surprise, discovered within a cookbook, its pages stained with what looked suspiciously like spilled wine. It was from his father. His father, a man who had always seemed so distant, so uninterested. The contents, however, held a venomous sting.

The letter detailed his disappointment, his disapproval of the life he'd chosen. It was a vicious attack, laced with contempt, on his profession, his partner, his very essence. The bile rose in his throat.

He tossed the letter aside, his hand clenching into a fist. He had spent his life striving to earn his father's approval, only to discover this venomous sentiment hidden away. He kicked the kitchen chair with a jarring thud. The sudden movement sent a wave of nausea through him, and he had to sit down to calm himself.
