The air grew heavy and close, suffocating. Within the small space, the character's internal state was unyielding and turbulent. He focused on the details around him, anything to avoid looking at Karen. The smell of her perfume, a cheap, cloying floral scent, was almost unbearable.

Karen had been chatty, she was always chatty, but he barely acknowledged her. It just made his anger rise. It felt like she was doing it on purpose.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm that raged inside. The only sounds in the small space were her endless commentary. He focused on the grime on the elevator floor, the way the light caught the dust particles. He did his best to ignore her.
