Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread usually soothed Eleanor. Now, the constant kneading, the flour dusting the air, the rising and falling of dough in the kitchen, filled her with a simmering frustration. Her daughter, Chloe, had latched onto her grandmother's recipes, taking over the kitchen with her baking.

She'd wake up to the smell of yeast, and her heart would sink. She found herself passive-aggressively leaving dirty dishes out, making petty comments about the amount of sugar Chloe used, and generally making her presence felt as the source of irritation that she was. One day, she found herself slamming the oven door in the middle of Chloe’s bread-making, leaving the bread undercooked.
