Gemotions

The paper crackled in Amelia’s grip, a sound that grated on her like nails on a chalkboard. The eviction notice. It was the landlord, of course, the fat, smug pig. She balled it up, the edges digging into her palm, and squeezed until her knuckles were white. The air in the apartment felt thick, suffocating. She threw the crumpled paper at the wall, the impact a pathetic little thud.

She slammed the door of the refrigerator closed, even though she hadn't taken anything out. The cold air wafted out, and she shivered, not from the temperature, but from something deeper, a coldness that had settled in her bones.

Later, she found herself staring at her neighbour's perfectly manicured lawn, imagining stomping across it, ruining the illusion of perfection. A wicked smile twisted her lips as she envisioned the chaos.
