The letter had been tucked into the pages of a forgotten book, unearthed during a recent move. Liam recognized the handwriting instantly. His vision blurred, and he had to sit down. He sat on the floor, the ancient, leather-bound volume forgotten at his side.

He read it, his lips twisting into a silent sneer. The words, so carefully chosen, felt like a slap in the face. Each phrase was a reminder of what he had endured. He could feel his hands clench into fists and his breathing grow shallow.

He carefully put the letter back inside the book, then threw the book, with all his force, across the room. The sound of the impact seemed to momentarily satisfy him.
