"So, that's it?" I asked, my voice tight. My sister, Clara, got the business. The business that should have been mine. My fingers were restless, picking at the worn fabric of my jeans. The lawyer, a man who seemed to take a perverse pleasure in the details, nodded solemnly.

Outside, the sun beat down on the parking lot, mirroring the searing heat that was now coursing through me. I imagined myself walking away, leaving, but the thought of Clara, her smugness, the satisfaction on her face, the way she has always bossed me around. It just wouldn't do.

I pictured the business, the building, the location. I could already see how she would run it. I felt a surge of… something. I looked at the lawyer, and I asked for more details, a lot more details.
