The piano practice, a series of off-key scales and clumsy attempts at melodies, was driving Olivia mad. She pressed her fingers against her temples, trying to block out the cacophony. The neighbor's child was clearly a beginner, but the relentless noise felt like a personal assault.

She paced her living room, her breath coming in shallow gasps. She couldn't take it anymore. She grabbed her coat and stormed out. She was going to say something. She had to. The doorbell chimed and she heard the child practice another chord.
