The cramped, cluttered garage was the last place he expected to find something so personal. Taped to the underside of a shelf, was his father's bucket list, scrawled on a scrap of cardboard. "Learn to sail." It was typical of the old man to keep secrets.

He ripped the cardboard down, letting it fall onto the dusty concrete. He kicked it, hard, sending it skittering across the floor. He felt a furious impulse to destroy everything, to erase every trace of the life his father had lived without him.
