The designer handbag, dangling casually from the neighbor's arm, felt like a personal insult. I watched, my heart rate quickening, as she glided past, a vision of effortless sophistication.

My own bag, a cheap imitation of a now-forgotten style, felt heavy and inadequate on my shoulder. The unfairness of it all was overwhelming.

I wanted to rip the bag from her hands, to destroy the evidence of her privilege. Instead, I just looked away, the fire of frustration burning in my chest.
