He discovered the list while cleaning out the basement. "Write a screenplay." "Move to the coast." "Love someone who appreciates me." His chest constricted. He felt suffocated by the air. It felt as if he was drowning.

He spent the next hour pacing his office, the list a constant weight in his pocket. He could hear her in the kitchen, humming along to the radio. The carefree sound grated on his nerves.

When she came to him to discuss her day, he merely grunted. Every answer she gave him was a stab of resentment. He felt a need to punish her.
