The park, once their sanctuary, now felt tainted. The bench where they had shared their first kiss, the path they had walked hand-in-hand – all of it was now infused with a bitter, acrid taste. He'd been distant, lately, spending hours on the phone, his face a mask of careful neutrality. Then, she discovered the phone.

The sunlight dappled through the leaves, but she didn’t feel the warmth. Her throat felt tight, a physical constriction. Tears welled in her eyes, blurring the familiar landscape into a watery, incomprehensible mess. She rose, walked past the flowers they had planted together, and then kept on walking.
