“I don’t want to go,” Peter mumbled, slumping against the kitchen table. He’d just learned his daughter, Emily, had Ms. Thompson for science. The same Ms. Thompson who had mocked his presentation on the solar system, calling it "childish". He pushed his plate away, suddenly unable to eat, the remnants of his breakfast swirling in his stomach. He remembered the sting of her words, the feeling of utter mortification. “It'll be fine,” he said, his voice flat, but the lie tasted bitter on his tongue.
