He sat by the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, mirroring the relentless tears that streamed down his face. The diagnosis. The treatment. All the pain, all the hope, now...misdirected. He clutched the faded photograph in his hand, a picture of a life he now realized wasn't his. He felt as if a vital piece of himself had been ripped away, leaving a gaping emptiness.
