Gemotions

The scent of lemon polish and old books filled the air. I looked around, and a wave of nausea washed over me. My sister, Lily, walked by, a clipboard clutched to her chest. She was buzzing with activity, her energy almost manic. I wanted to tell her to stop, to slow down, but the words wouldn't come.

I wandered into the living room, the sunlight casting patterns on the floor. I ran my fingers over the smooth surface of the piano, the keys untouched for months. I remembered the music, the way her fingers had danced across them, creating the most beautiful melodies.

I sank onto the sofa, the cushions worn and comfortable. The world felt muffled, the colors drained. The emptiness inside me was a constant ache, a deep, abiding sadness that settled in the pit of my stomach.
