A wave of nausea washed over Daniel as he opened the envelope. The glossy photograph of his younger self, beaming into the camera, was almost unbearable. He slammed the envelope shut, the sound echoing in his empty apartment.

He pulled the covers over his head, the darkness offering a brief, fragile solace. He just wanted to sleep, to escape the relentless ache that had become his constant companion. He remembered the promise of forever they had shared, the future they had meticulously planned, and the sudden, brutal shattering of it all.

He found himself wandering aimlessly, his feet carrying him to the park. The swings swayed gently in the breeze, mocking his inability to find peace. He could picture her on those swings, her laughter. He wished he could turn back time.
