Gemotions

The family gathered around the mahogany table. On the table, the antique tea set, her great-aunt’s, was displayed. The executor was discussing the details of the auction. The room felt suddenly too small.

She felt a sharp pain, somewhere deep inside, as if something vital had been severed.

The delicate china pieces held the echoes of laughter, shared secrets, and countless cups of tea. The thought of them being dispersed, broken up and sold, brought a lump to her throat, that wouldn’t go away.

She had to get out of the room. She could almost feel the weight of unspoken grief pressing down on her.
