"You okay, Dad?" Mark asked, his voice soft. He knew better than to push. He watched his father, John, stare at the house.

John didn't answer. He just stood there, his hands shoved deep in his pockets, his shoulders slumped. The air around him seemed to crackle with an unspoken sadness. The house, his childhood home, was being dismantled piece by piece, and with it, a part of him.

John recalled the countless afternoons playing ball in the yard, the birthday parties, the holidays filled with laughter and love. He recalled the loss of his parents here. All those memories, all those experiences, lived and breathed within those walls. The machinery worked with mechanical precision, slowly consuming the place he called home. He couldn't speak. He couldn't move. He simply stared, transfixed, his face etched with a profound sorrow.
