The stadium lights seemed to mock her, casting harsh, unforgiving shadows on the empty field. She sat on the bench, her back ramrod straight, trying to project an air of composure. Inside, however, a storm raged. The coach had made the decision.

She watched the other players celebrating their victory, their laughter echoing through the stadium. Each cheer was a shard of glass, twisting in her gut. She used to feel like part of that, like part of the group.

She took a deep breath, trying to regain control. The pain was like a physical pressure, squeezing the air from her lungs. She would have to go home and face the disappointment of her family.
