“Impossible,” Javier muttered, his voice barely audible. His scholarship, the key to his family’s hopes, was going to someone else. It had been a mistake, a clerical error, a reason that felt like a knife.

He left the office and walked for hours, aimlessly. The city, usually a symphony of sounds and sights, became a blur. Buildings, cars, people – all merging into an indistinguishable mass. He found himself in a park, sitting on a swing set, the childish structure a strange juxtaposition to the adult weight he now carried.

He pushed off the ground, the swing arcing higher and higher, but the exhilaration never came. Instead, the motion only deepened his sense of isolation. His chest constricted with each upward swing, each rise a reminder of the fall that awaited him. The future, once a clear path, was now a tangled mess.
