The muted glow of the laptop screen cast elongated shadows across Sarah’s face. She scrolled through the unearthed Instagram profile, the curated life of “Ava_Sunshine” mocking her. Every sunny beach photo, every laughing group picture, it was a world she hadn't known existed. A coldness spread through her chest, a physical ache settling deep within.

She closed the laptop with a definitive click. Dinner, already lukewarm on the kitchen counter, remained untouched. Her daughter’s usual boisterous energy, the soundtrack to her evening, was conspicuously absent.
