He found himself standing outside the bar, the neon glow casting a sickly green hue on the rain-slicked pavement. The door vibrated with the bass of the music inside. A familiar intro. A guitar riff he’d crafted in his bedroom, alone, with only the memory of her face for company. Now, it was being strummed by someone else, a band he’d never heard of, playing his song. He felt his chest compress, as if a physical weight had settled there. He leaned against the brick, the cold seeping through his jacket. He wanted to leave, but his feet were planted, rooted to the spot, paralyzed by the music and the ache that settled deep inside.
