The scent of dust and mothballs filled the air as Eliza stared at the photograph. She'd always been told her great-aunt Eleanor was a shy, bookish woman, who dedicated her life to caring for others. Yet, there she was, in a sequined dress, laughing into the camera, a cigarette dangling from her fingers. This vibrant woman was a world away from the spinster her family had always described. Eliza pressed her knuckles to her mouth, a sudden wave of nausea rising within her. The carefully built foundation of her family's lore crumbled, leaving her adrift in a sea of unknown truths.
