Gemotions

He stared out the window, the eviction notice crumpled in his pocket, forgotten. The streetlights cast a hazy glow on the empty street below. He felt a deep, abiding emptiness, a hollow space where joy and hope had once resided. He could feel the cold seeping into his bones, even though he was indoors.

His gaze lingered on the building across the street, where a couple was laughing on their balcony. He felt an agonizing ache of something lost he couldn't name. He imagined their future, a future he would no longer have. He turned away from the window, the weight of the coming days crushing his spirit.
