Gemotions

It had taken so long to grow, that cherry tree. He remembered the spring days spent tending to it, the summer afternoons spent resting in its shade. Now, it was just a pile of broken wood.

His hands shook as he took out his phone. He needed to say something, share the pain. But who would understand? His friends, his family... They would offer sympathy, but they would never truly get it.

He slumped onto the garden bench, the cold metal biting through his jeans. He stared at the sky, the blue a meaningless expanse of nothingness.
