"The art gallery, to Arthur." Arthur, her brother, was grinning, his eyes gleaming with ambition. Sarah, his sister, felt a deep hollowness, a void that threatened to consume her. She was bequeathed a collection of her grandmother's watercolor paintings.

The air in the room felt stifling. All around her was the chatter and celebration of her brother's success. She was a ghost. Sarah longed to disappear.

She clutched the paintings, their delicate surfaces a comfort. Each brushstroke was a memory of her grandmother, of her laughter, of her love. Arthur's plans felt so empty.

She retreated to her car, and sat there, simply staring out the window, listening to her own shallow breath.
