The silence in the cramped apartment was deafening. Michael found himself staring at the wall, a blank canvas that seemed to mock his current state. He’d just learned that his new boss, the wealthy Mr. Davis, was also the benefactor behind his ex-wife's lavish lifestyle.

A wave of nausea washed over him. The floor seemed to tilt. He felt a burning sensation behind his eyes.

He stood up, pacing the small living room. The worn carpet felt rough beneath his bare feet. Every object, every chipped mug, every threadbare cushion, seemed to shout out his failure. He was trapped in a life of limitations, while they, it appeared, were living a dream.
