"D+" shrieked from the top of the calculus test. Sarah’s hands started to shake. She’d been so sure, so confident. The hours spent hunched over textbooks, the late nights fueled by caffeine…all for this.

She crumpled the paper in her fist, the sharp edges digging into her palm. A bitter taste coated her tongue. The classroom around her seemed to fade, becoming a blurry, indistinct background.

The walk back to her dorm felt like an eternity. Each step was a monumental effort. Every part of her wanted to disappear.
