"About that pine tree," the email began, a stark, unwelcome intrusion into her already frayed existence. The neighbor, a Mr. Davies, cited potential hazards. Fire hazard. Falling needles. She didn’t read further. She already knew.

The silence in her house was suffocating. Every ticking clock, every creaking floorboard echoed the hollowness within her. She sat on the couch, staring at the ceiling, the familiar patterns blurring as tears welled in her eyes. The tree had been a silent witness to everything – the laughter, the arguments, the final, devastating goodbye.

She finally stood, walked to the window, and looked at the tree, her gaze traveling up its trunk to the sky. It was a giant, a beautiful giant, and she would miss it terribly.
