The manuscript, bound in cheap, uninspired covers, lay discarded on the floor. Sarah had hurled it across the room. *The Girl in the Grey Coat*, it was called, and it was her life, or a twisted, fictionalized version of it. The betrayal was an icy hand squeezing at her throat.

She paced the length of her tiny apartment, the floorboards groaning under her weight. How could he? How could he take their intimacy and twist it into something… public? Something for others to consume? She felt sick. The air felt thin, difficult to breathe. She hadn't eaten all day.

She picked up her phone, her fingers hovering over his contact. The impulse to call, to scream, was almost overwhelming. Instead, she deleted his number.
