Gemotions

The old farmhouse creaked and groaned around her. Eleanor, exhausted and empty, surveyed the contents of the capsule, a metal box she had discovered while clearing out the basement. It had been sealed, carefully, with a date from a lifetime ago.

Inside was a collection of items, carefully chosen, each a fragment of a memory. A button from his favorite coat. A pressed flower from their wedding day. A recording of his voice, speaking words she could not bear to listen to. He had been gone for a long time. She felt the tears begin, and they never stopped.

She sat on the floor, the metal box lying open before her. She didn't have the energy to close it, or bury it again. All that was left now, was the grief.
