The air in the apartment felt thick, heavy with unspoken feelings. Olivia stared at the notice, the glossy paper mocking her. Condo. She felt a sharp pang of resentment.

She moved from room to room, touching the walls. She was sure she'd never find a place as good, as comfortable, as this. She’d hung pictures, planted herbs on the windowsill, built a life.

She picked up her phone, but there was no one to call. No one who understood. The silence in the apartment intensified, a physical pressure. She wanted to scream, to break something, to make the feeling subside.
