Gemotions

The gallery buzzed, a symphony of hushed conversations and the clinking of champagne flutes. Clara, the artist in question, smoothed her dress, a nervous gesture she’d repeated a dozen times already. A woman, her face etched with appreciation, approached. "Your work... it's just incredible," she began, her eyes tracing the lines of Clara's painting. A thrill zipped through Clara, a sudden quickening in her chest.

Then, the woman's hand lifted, revealing a sleeve pulled up to expose a familiar curve of ink. It was the stylized willow tree, the very one Clara had slaved over for months, now permanently etched onto the woman's skin. A gasp escaped Clara. The woman grinned, delighted. "I wanted to carry a little piece of it with me always."

A warmth spread through Clara's limbs, chasing away the cold anxiety. She found herself smiling, truly, from the inside out. This was… breathtaking.
