The phone rang. It was early, the sun barely peeking over the horizon. Leo answered, his voice thick with sleep. He froze. It was the law firm, the one he'd interviewed with last week. The call went straight to voicemail.

He hung up, his heart thumping in his chest. He replayed the message in his head. Did they call to offer the job? Or to let him down? His friend, Mateo, had also been in the running.

He got out of bed and started making coffee. He checked his phone every five seconds. A sense of anticipation, electrifying and almost painful, ran through him.
