The house had felt empty since the argument. Lately, she felt as if they were speaking two different languages. Finding the small, worn Italian dictionary tucked into the drawer of the nightstand had been a surprise.

Today, she found Mark in the living room, struggling to pronounce a phrase. His eyes met hers, and a blush crept up his neck. He looked up, his eyes meeting hers, a shy grin spreading across his face as he began to fumble with words. "Come stai, amore?"

She felt a loosening in her chest. The tension in the room dissipated, replaced with something… different. A possibility. She walked towards him, ready to listen.
