Gemotions

The sign, freshly printed, read "The Cozy Corner Cafe: Closing Down Sale." It was taped to the front door. John's breath caught in his throat. He’d come here every Tuesday night with his grandfather, sipping coffee and reading the newspaper.

He opened the door, a small bell jingling. The familiar smell of brewing coffee and cinnamon rolls calmed him. He walked over to the counter and noticed the owner, Mrs. Gable, wiping down the already-pristine surfaces.

"Evening, John," Mrs. Gable said, her voice a little wistful. "One last cinnamon roll?"

"Yes, please," he answered, a bright spark in his eye. "And I'll take a couple to go."

He picked up a pen and started making a list: of his favorite meals, of all the good memories. He wouldn't let this place simply disappear.
